Mentor Helps the Blind Exercise Their Other Senses
Meet Bill Kociaba, the world’s only blind Certified Kettlebell Instructor
Dragon Door: How did you get started with fitness as an interest and ultimately as your career?
Bill Kociaba: Because of my vision, I didn't go out and play, run, jump or do all the normal things a kid does outside, so I didn’t develop normally. I
was physically weak and couldn’t play sports, which was very frustrating since my older brother was an extraordinary athlete.Since I couldn’t participate, I really wasn’t interested in most sports—but I loved watching professional wrestling. The guys were big and strong like
superheroes, and here I was a little fat kid with bad skin and bad eyes who was always getting picked on. I remember seeing Weider ads in the old wrestling
magazines. The ad that stood out for me featured Dave Draper and I became obsessed with him. Read more...
Accidental Easy Strength
For the past several months I had been training in preparation for my HKC with laser-like focus. My training was nothing but swings, get-ups and goblet squats. But I missed my old friends the military press and the deadlift. I decided that it was time for what Dan John calls "park bench" workouts. It was time to just go play in the gym, to train with no specific purpose beyond the joy of lifting heavy stuff. Read more...

WORLD’S ONLY BLIND CERTIFIED KETTLEBELL INSTRUCTOR
Have you ever found yourself wishing health and fitness programs were easier to follow and a lot less eager to promise you the moon?
You have a busy life with a limited amount of time and energy. You know you want to make some healthy changes, but you can’t make these changes overnight and don’t want to pay an arm and a leg to achieve them .
Over the past 35+ years I have explored just about every bodybuilding, strength training and fat loss system to come along.
I have been around long enough to recognize the classic methods other self-proclaimed experts spout as new and revolutionary. I’ve seen scores of sites crop up with page after page attempting to tackle every aspect of fitness from aerobics to Zumba. They overwhelm you with too much information that only serves to confuse and frustrate. Information that sounds great but does little if anything to get you closer to your goals.
Let’s skip the BS and get you well on your way to a regimen that fits you.
You will enjoy your visit here if you are interested in:
- Practical tips you can work into your busy schedule
- Realistic training programs that don't leave you exhausted and frustrated
- Nutrition programs that won't break your wallet
- Very well-detailed descriptions of exercises and techniques
- A growing library of audio interviews and training articles
- Fitness programs with special attention to certain medical conditions
- Advice from professionals I trust to give you reliable information
Whether you are blind, stuck in a wheel chair or simply not 20-30 anymore and can't devote several hours a week to a training program, I look forward to working with you.

“Hi:
“I’m a blind teacher of the blind and visually impaired. I’m just writing to applaud your efforts in promoting exercise to our blind community. I became interested in exercise when I was 39. I have a treadmill in my basement and walk regularly around our local park with my guide dog. We really need to get the message out that although we are blind, we can still enjoy exercise for its many benefits. Thank you for your part in doing just that! I plan to check out your workout sessions ASAP and share this resource with my students. Thanks again for your efforts.” Karen Palau
